And what a better way to start winter than with rain! Hey, it's not snow, but it's wet weather that's been going on since yesterday morning!

    Currently sitting at 40 degrees.

Meteorological Winter began on December 1st. It is used by meteorologists and runs during the 3 coldest months of the year. That is, December, January, and February. Meteorological Spring begins on March 1st.

Oh, okay. Well, I'm not talking about that. Although, if I recall correctly, that's how they do it in Australia.

I could say something about this. But I have a feeling what's done in Australia should stay in Australia.

... Now that you pointed it out, I cannot unsee.

Weather means nothing in regard to what season it is.

I've heard a few things. Giant spiders, crocodiles, snakes, sharks, ants, koalas, kangaroos. Essentially that everything there wants to kill you and the things that don't can't be bothered with your meaningless existence.

I've also heard that the weather plots to kill people and there's random fires.

...That's a good one. Weather means everything in regard to what season it is.

    No, it doesn't.

People associate snow with winter, for example. Well, it's winter now and it's been raining in cities/towns nearby.

You've heard correctly. Australia is pretty much a giant death trap. But that's what makes it so fun :)

The only ones who associate snow with winter live in colder climes. In Ancient Greece/Rome, it used to get so hot that everything would essentially die. [ Hence the myth of Persephone living with Hades and how Demeter used to get so upset that she wouldn't allow anything to grow. And that was how they explained the seasons.]

The weather differs in various climates. But the seasons remain the same. A farmer in the Midwest is not going to plant corn in the middle of winter as the ground is most likely frozen. They couldn't plant this past spring because the ground was still frozen at least a foot down. There was still ice on Lake Superior in the middle of June.

Weather changes. The start and end of the seasons on either the astronomical or the meteorological calenders do not.

Weather changes, but the seasonal calendars do not, yes. What about it?

    Why thank you!
I like this whole anti-conformity to the meteorological calendar thing. Who says summer has to start on december 1? SCREW YOU METEOROLOGISTS! I SAY SUMMER STARTS TODAY!

It does when it should feel like it. Also, I don't care what anyone else says. Winter starts in November
