What is the colour of this dress?

I am so sick of this dress but I am also insanely curious as to what causes peoples differences in perception.

White and gold, though I'm not part of the stupid debate.

Wait, on-line people ? You do realize each screen has its own luminosity and contrast settings, right ?

Be careful, you might cut someone with that edge.

Yes, but then how do people who view it on the same screen see different colours? :/

    Well first ...

Maybe you do see the same thing and just won' t give it the same label.
Second, each eyes are different. While our perceptions don' t fluctuate as wildly when it comes to colours as when it comes to taste, they still do. My sis' hubby is color blind and I' m still not sure how he manages to drive.

Dunno if Ienzo ninjadly edited her OP but I swear I see it black and blue now. Same position and lighting as earlier. And all I see in the vid is black and blue as well.
Edit : Aaaaaaand back to beige as soon as I posted. If I wave my fingers around between my eyes and that picture I can "see" my brain jump from one color scheme to the other. Brains are weird.

I have seen it fade from black and blue to white and beige and tbh I still don't really care

What matters here is that the dress still isn't pretty

No edit but this has nothing to do with the cones in your eyes, nothing to do with biology really- colour blind and full vision see the same and different colours alike- it's not a factor (neither is gender, age or anything really that has been found). It's simply how you perceive the lighting, it could appear to be a white dress under a blue light or a blue dress under a yellow light. Since it's so borderline, sometimes you see white, sometimes blue.

I hadn' t noticed yet that this dress was the meme of the day, I assumed you and your friends might be having a "lavender versus violet" kind of debate. Had you explained the whole thing I would immediately have thought about that particular optical illusion. Both my parents are opticians, they have entire books filled with those. I had never seen any "real world" example of that particular trick though, only drawings. Nor one that was so borderline that it splits the population on whether they "activate" their inner Photoshop or not.

xD Oh sorry, my bad. My facebook dash has been filled with this dress the last day and a load of people have been talking about it so I just assumed you all had heard about it.

Without watching the video, it looks like an offtone pearly white with ugly beige jumping in to jumble things up, and an altering light skyblue aura about it...

Pretty much it's just a big mess of fabric with a design that's screams "I DUNNO WHAT I WANT TO BE, BUT I'LL BE SOMETHING! I DO WHAT I WANT! BEAT THAT, HUMAN EYES! BAWHAHAHA!"

White and Gold is what I see, Blue and Black is what it be.

It's really funny, because in that picture I see white and gold, but I've seen other pictures of it from a shopping standpoint or something that people have looked up and I've seen it's normal colors. Heck, last night my mom had the picture on her phone, my dad, brother, her, and I looked at it, and we were divided on what we saw.

I don't care if I'm wrong on it's actual colors, I see white and gold.
